about

Fendoyog is a lullaby sung to children among the Teduray people from the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. I came across this melody years ago and always wanted to play it on the Oud. I wrote a bridge to fill it out. The Bata drums play rhythms for Obatala, who is the orisha of wisdom, peace, compassion, & justice. The tune evokes the journey of life from infancy to old age, from innocence to wisdom.
